Business & Commercial
COMMERCIAL INSURANCE
Commercial auto and general liability policies help protect you and your business against the increased exposure of operating in a professional environment. These coverages provide much of the same protection as your personal policies, but most personal auto and liability policies will not cover incidents that happen in the course of business.
If a vehicle is used for tasks other than commuting that deal with the operator’s occupation, business, or profession, a commercial policy is necessary in Texas.

COMMERCIAL AUTO LIABILITY
Commercial auto insurance in Texas is subject to the same liability limit requirements as personal auto. That means a commercial auto policy must have limits of 30/60/25. $30,000 for each person injured in an accident, $60,000 for all people injured in an accident, and $25,000 for all property damaged in an accident. Insurance that simply covers these three things is called liability only. Most commercial operators however, prefer to have additional coverages to protect their financial interests and health.
If you have a commercial auto policy or are looking to get one, it is good to have an understanding of the coverages involved. Since not all coverages are required it’s important to be familiar with them before you decline an optional coverage. Below are the coverages involved in commercial auto insurance and short description.:
- • Bodily Injury Liability: pays for the bodily injury or death resulting from an at fault accident and provides legal defense
- • Property Damage: pays if your car accidentally causes damage to another person’s property and provides legal defense
- • Combined Single Limit: these policies combine the limits of bodily injury and property damage rather than offering separate limits for each.
- • Medical Payments: pays for the medical expenses of the driver and passengers in your car, regardless of fault
- • Uninsured/Underinsured Motorist: pays for your lost wages, medical bills, and pain and suffering if you are hit by an uninsured motorist
- • Comprehensive Physical Damage: pays to repair or replace your vehicle in the event of vandalism, fire, flood, theft, or other covered perils
- • Collision Coverage: pays to repair damage when your car is hit
- • Other Optional Coverages: coverages such as towing, rental reimbursement, and roadside assistance may also be available but are not required
